Ever since John and I went to Groove Train for dinner we’ve wanted to go back for their pizza. As we were eating our meals on that first visit, we saw pizza after pizza go by and every one looked so good. When we talk about going out, John says, “Let’s try one of those pizzas?” So we did.
I’d heard about yumtable.com.au, an Australian restaurant reservation website, from their PR person who asked me if I’d try out their app. I have an android phone and the app is for an iPhone so that didn’t work – no review from me on that. However, I did see that I could reserve a table by creating an account directly on the website. It took about 2 minutes, then I chose the restaurant, the time I wanted to dine and clicked submit.
Whenever you try something new, there’s always that chance that it’s not going to work just as they say but surprise, surprise, in about 5 seconds I received a token on my phone and entered it on the website and a few seconds later I received my reservation confirmation in my email inbox.
We arrived spot on at 7pm and our table was waiting for us. I asked the manager of the restaurant if the reservation had come through and he said it worked perfectly. I was the first person to book using yumtable.
I had gone to a spice blending class all afternoon (post coming up on that) and we’d tasted roasted potatoes with spices and a curry and we’d had wine so I wasn’t starving. The server came to the table and asked if we wanted drinks and appetisers and John said he wanted a garlic pizza as a starter. What??
Yes, he wanted a garlic pizza because they are delicious and served with good olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Talk about pizza overkill but I had a slice and he was right – outstanding. The crust is light, thin and really delicious. I could have eaten only this and been happy.
I went with the gourmet vegetarian option with roasted pumpkin, balsamic reduction, feta, shaved parmesan and pine nuts. I LOVE pine nuts but I don’t think I like them so much on a pizza. John suggested that perhaps I just wasn’t very hungry and he could be right.
John went with the gamberi pizza which has fior di latte cheese. Neither of us had heard of that and our server said, “It’s Italian for mozzarella.” It also had spinach, Spanish onion, prawns garlic and chilli. He ate every single bite and every piece except one of the garlic appetiser pizza. He hadn’t eaten all day, unlike me who’d eaten all day long.
One thing though, the website says something about a discount if you use yumtable but we didn’t get one. I don’t understand how that works and their website isn’t clear either. My reservation said up to 25% off the bill but ‘up to’ can include nothing maybe? Someone expecting a discount might be disappointed.
The meal was as good as we’d had before and I will certainly be using yumtable.com.au again if it’s available for the restaurant we want to visit.
