There’s a fairy floating around the food blog world and I crack up every time I see the name. I got a tweet from @fairyhobmother the other day that made me laugh and since then I’ve seen Fairy Hobmother visiting blogs, tweeting and getting up to all sorts of mischief with his pixie dust.
The Fairy Hobmother is a guy. Seriously. He’s a very clever guy too. He works for the big site, appliancesonline.co.uk, one of the biggest providers of gas cookers or any kind of appliances you could think of. I said gas cookers because although everyone tells me induction is the way to go, I hate the scratches and having to be so careful not to damage the surface. Give me a gas stove anytime please.
I have a ceramic one in this house and it’s less than a year old and I’ve buggered it up already. Our housesitter burnt something on it and I just couldn’t get it off. So I soaked and scrubbed and well.. scrubbed the white lines on one of the elements. I’m not proud of it but hey, once it’s done it’s buy a new cooktop. It works just fine, it’s just unsightly.
Anyway, back to Fairy Hobmother. I’m writing this post because I think Matt Mitchell is really putting his business in front of heaps of eyes just by being clever. Here’s one of his tweets – see what I mean?
I am not the Fairy Gobmother, nor am I the Hairy Fobmother; they have their own pixie missions which do not involve joy…
Who doesn’t like a pixie spreading joy?
Here’s one of the blog comments he left someone (not me).
Hi Barbara!
I’m the Fairy Hobmother, spreading light and joy throughout the blogosphere with the help of talented bloggers like you.
I stumbled across your blog today and thought that you deserved a reward for your bloggish efforts. I’d like to send you a gift in the form of an Amazon voucher.
All that I’d ask is that you mention me and a little bit about my mission in one of your blog posts. I don’t need much, just a brief note, and as an added bonus if any other bloggers comment on the post it may entice me to visit them too!
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in please let me know and I’ll get things moving this end.
In the mean time take care, and keep up the good work!
I think we could all learn a lot about promotion by following this guy around. He might know a lot about appliances, I don’t know but I’m certain he knows a LOT about social networking and promoting sites.
As for me, I’m going to watch him and learn.

Sounds delightful Maureen. I have a Lemon Fairy, but until now I hadn’t heard of the Fairy Hobmother!
I haven’t heard of him yet but would like to know him and learn from him. Thanks for sharing the Fairy Hobmother to us.
Malou
Certainly does sound like he knows a thing or two about promotion. The only fairy that has been around here is the tooth fairy — a big part of life with a 6-year old!
Hehe a fairy godmother or a fairy hobmother is always something a gal needs!
Good for you to have visited by the hairy Err.. fairy God mother, Maureen! Make the best of it. Hugs.

Wow..it’s been a while since I’ve seen any sign of the Fairy Hobmother. I guess ‘she’ was fluttering around another universe spreading her gifts to make people happy. Glad to see her again. I’ve already been hobbed, so it’s just hellooo LOL

Agree with Barb, he certainly does sound like he knows a thing or two about promotion.
The Fairy Hobmother visited my blog too and I got a new crockpot out of the deal! So are you promoting him in hopes of getting something too, or did he make a deal with you already? Hope you get something you really need, though the cooktop is unlikely. I think the max is $50 for his budget, but maybe you’ll get lucky!

I love the name – Fairy Hobmother. Never heard of her, even though it’s a him – lol! Hope you get sprinkled with fairy dust and end up with a nice little treat!
Haha, awesome – I’m lucky enough to have been blessed by a visit once before from the Fairy Hobmother, although at that point I could have sworn it was a girl – perhaps he’s entered a new stage in his lifecycle… a bit like a caterpillar to a buttefly maybe? Congratulations Maureen
I never see this dude, er, fairy hobmother. It’s like a mythical creature to me.
Congrats on his visit. He must make your day extra happy and special~~~!
I knew that the fairy hobmother had made an appearance in France and Canada, maybe I’ll be lucky enough to have her or him sprinkle some fairy dust around my little corner of Maine.

I miss Maine at this time of year – even without the Fairy Hobmother – who is male, btw
That Fairy Hobmother is very clever indeed! He visited me and I’ve been really remiss in not spreading the word through the land. Must do that this week before he puts a spell on me

The Fairy Hobmother sounds like a smart fella. He certainly knows how to get people’s attention! I too will be keeping an eye on his tweets. Who knows, maybe he can teach this old dog a thing or two!

Hi Billie, lovely to see you. You’ve got a great site for giveaways. Nothing like that in Australia I don’t think.
I’m always a million miles away from everything. or at least 8,000
That is a super cleaver way of promoting a business-by doing something completely non-related to the business but absolutely helpful, welcomed, and fun for others! That is something I should learn from in my blogging and business practices! I just wish I were creative enough to think of something to call it. Although I guess I could be Kangaroo Mama on a mission! =P
